News Office of Code ComplianceWe welcome the addition of the Office of Code Compliance for Allegany County’s Planning Service Division. Our Code Enforcement Officers Jerry Michael and Pattie Talley, inspect properties for junk cars, unsafe structures, livability issues, no permits, noise, property maintenance, salvage yards, zoning infractions, and garbage. If property owners do not comply within 30 days of their notification a citation will be issued. Fines can range from $100.00 to $1,000.00 per day, past the 30 days, that the violation exists. If the fine is not paid within fifteen days, then a court date is set. Abatement may be requested by the Code Enforcement Officer or issued by the judge. The county has recently given the right to enter private property to remove junk and bill the landowner for the work and disposal expenses associated with the abatement. New OrthophotographyThe Geographic Information Systems Office is reviewing their new Orthophotography (** an aerial photograph that has been geometrically corrected such that the scale of the photograph is uniform, meaning that the photo can be considered equivalent to a map.) of the County. The photos were taken April 2005. So soon we will have new data to update our maps. Land Use and Planning EngineerWe also welcome another addition to the Department of Planning, Angela Patterson our Land Use and Planning Engineer. Her current major task is to perform on-site inspections of storm water management facilities throughout the county and follow up with property owners to ensure that all facilities pass inspection. The long-term plan for this position is to review site plans for storm water compliance, as well as consult the Planning Commission on issues related to storm water.
Cumberland Area Metropolitan Organization (CAMPO)The Allegany County Planning Department is involved with transportation for the Allegany County Transit (ACT) and its transit system coordination in the county, including the distribution of transit operating assistance and the acquisition of buses. The Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Cumberland area. As a condition for receiving Federal transportation funding, the designated MPO must carry out certain transportation planning functions and must develop a transportation capital improvement program. The three main products of this work are the Unified Planning Work Program (annual), Long Range Transportation Plan (every four years) and the Transportation Improvement Program (every two years). Planning funding received from the Federal government helps to carry out other planning studies.
