Dale R. Lewis was elected to the Office of Allegany County Commissioner in 2006 for a four-year term.  He previously served in this capacity for two four year terms from 1994 to 2002. Of note, Commissioner Lewis was also elected to Allegany County Board of Education and served from1980 to 1992.

A native of Allegany County, Commissioner Lewis is an Allegany County public high school graduate (Valley High School) and pursued higher education at Allegany College of Maryland, Cumberland. He is a licensed realtor in the State of Maryland.

Commissioner Lewis was employed by the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Cumberland, and was a member of the United Rubber Workers Union Local 26.  He worked there for 22 ½ years. Commissioner Lewis now is associated with Coldwell Banker Professional Real Estate Services; this Coldwell-Banker office ranked first in sales in the State of Maryland in 2007.

Commissioner Lewis has served and continues to serve in many organizations positively impacting Allegany County.

Commissioner Lewis and his fellow County Commissioners now serve on the Allegany County Board of Education (each County Commissioner is an ex-officio member for one 16 month term – Lewis serves from August 2009 through November 2010). Lewis is a member of the Board of Education’s Substance Abuse Task Force Committee.  The County Commissioners also serve on the Allegany County Board of Health and the Cumberland Allegany County Industrial Foundation, Inc. (CACIF) Board of Directors (advisor).

Commissioner Lewis is involved with the Tri-County Council for Western Maryland, Inc. (TCC). He serves on the Human Resources Development Commission (HRDC), the Western Maryland Consortium Executive Council, the Allegany County Mental Health Advisory Committee, the Allegany County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Advisory Council, the Allegany County Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, and the U. S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Federal Correctional Institution Community Relations Board (CRB).

In the community Commissioner Lewis is a life member of the Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company and the Fraternal Order of Police State Troopers Lodge 40.  He also is a long-time member of the Frostburg Moose Lodge 348, the Frostburg Rotary, and the Cresaptown Eagles. 

Commissioner Lewis and his wife, the former Eileen Byrnes, reside in Lonaconing. They are the parents of five adult children and have eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Commissioner Lewis is the son of Mrs. Eva Lewis, Frostburg, and the late Owen Lewis, Sr.
