Allegany County Department of Public Safety and Homeland Security

Allegany County is currently served by 13 volunteer ambulance companies and 1 career ambulance service. Of those 14 ambulance companies, 13 provide advanced life support and the remaining company provides care on a basic life support level. The county is also home to 2 private ambulance companies. The Maryland State Police helicopter, designated as Trooper 5, is currently stationed at the Cumberland Regional Airport.

The area emergency service personnel are currently receiving their training via the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute and the Regional EMS Council, and are certified through the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services.

The area is served by 2 campuses of the Western Maryland Health System. Cumberland Memorial Hospital currently serves as the area wide trauma center, and Sacred Heart Hospital is the other campus
