Alltrans - ADA Service

To schedule an ADA trip please call Alltrans at 301-724-1255, Monday through Friday between 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Trips must be scheduled no later than 4:00pm the day before your trip.

Allegany County Transit offers Demand Response service. These are pre-arranged curb-to-curb service providing transportation for qualifying elderly individuals and/or individuals with disabilities. See more details about the Alltrans program below.

This service is designed to meet the needs of our senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.  This is an advance reservation service.  Reservations can be made Monday through Friday during all regular business hours.  Reservations can be made by 4:00pm the day before and up to ten (10) days prior.  Please call 301-724-1255 for eligibility and more information on both our senior and ADA service.

Senior Citizens

  Curb-to-curb transportation is provided to those citizens sixty-five (65) or older within our service area.  There are no restrictions on your trip purpose, meaning it can be used for shopping, marketing, doctor appointments, dental, social outings, anything at all.  The fare structure will never be more than twice the fixed route bus fare, which is $2.00 for a one-way trip  
 
ADA Service
 

This is a service provided to complement our fixed-route service and is offered only to individuals with disabilities who are unable to ride accessible, fixed-route bus service because of their disability.  Our ADA service area is ¾ mile on either side of the fixed routes.  ADA service is designed to ensure that the civil rights of the disabled are guaranteed as protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).  This is a curb-to-curb service provided during the same days and hours as our fixed-route bus service.  There are no restrictions of the purpose of the trip, meaning the service can be used for shopping, marketing, etc.  There are no waiting lists for service and per The Act of 1990 no pattern of practice of late trips, trip denials or long trips.  Please call 301-724-1255 for eligibility and additional information.

 

Fares:  Our fare structure will never be more than twice the fixed route bus fare which is $2.00.

Who is eligible? To be eligible for ADA service you must live less than ¾ miles from a bus route (see map).  If you live outside of ACT’s service area, once you reach a destination within the service area and ¾ mile from a fixed route you can use our service.  ADA service is only for those persons who cannot use fixed route service due to the follow ADA criteria:

Three categories of persons with disabilities:

  • Persons unable to board, ride or disembark from accessible fixed route vehicles, includes those who “cannot navigate the system”.
  • Persons who could ride an accessible vehicle but the vehicles are not accessible. 
  • Persons who cannot travel to/from the bus stops.
